Community Place NW

Sue Munion, President & Stephanie King, Executive Director

Two kindred spirits, united with the purpose of bringing educational resources & joy to our Plateau Communities & surrounding.  Sue is recently retired from service to our Federal Government.  She brings military, government agency and agricultural experience to our organization.  Stephanie is a professional chef, retired teacher and caregiver, having served special needs, elder and socio-economically disadvantaged populations for more than 40 years (see her story below).  Expanding on the Kids Place NW base, Community Place NW will bring intergenerational educational experiences in homesteading, permaculture, animal husbandry, gardening, cooking, food sustainability, ayurvedic health & diet, traditional arts & skills, language arts, music and more.

Stephanie's Story

Hi, I'm Chef Steph. I am a mother, teacher, published children's writer, caregiver, and professional chef. I have been teaching kids cooking and art classes for more than 20 years, across three states and two countries. In 2003, I founded Kitchen Kids of Portland, OR with the purpose of spreading the joy of cooking to the young minds of the community. Hoping to make a permanent home here, I returned to Washington State in 2021. I want to share my experience with the children of the community, in a fun environment that nurtures creativity and curiosity.  I founded Kids Place Northwest in 2022, a non-profit organization serving the children and youth of Eastern Pierce County.
